Akon Builds $6 Billion Futuristic ‘Wakanda-Inspired’ City in Senegal
International music icon Akon is turning science fiction into reality with the creation of Akon City — a $6 billion futuristic smart city in Senegal, designed to mirror the spirit and innovation of Wakanda, the fictional African nation from Marvel’s Black Panther.
Situated about 100 kilometers from Dakar, Akon City is envisioned as a technological and cultural utopia. The project aims to generate thousands of jobs for Senegalese citizens while offering African-Americans a welcoming haven from racial injustice. It’s also set to become a top destination for global tourism, showcasing Africa’s innovation, diversity, and beauty.
The design merges cutting-edge technology with traditional African aesthetics. Buildings are inspired by flowing rivers and ancient village sculptures, fusing heritage with modernity. The city’s features will include:
A luxury hotel themed around all 54 African countries
High-end residential neighborhoods
A state-of-the-art tech hub
Hospitals, schools, a stadium, police stations
A beachfront resort and eco-friendly infrastructure
A solar power plant and waste management systems
Akoin, a native cryptocurrency, for all in-city transactions
Construction was originally set to begin in 2021, and Akon has already raised about one-third of the required funding. Senegalese leaders have praised the ambitious initiative for its economic potential and symbolic value, especially during a time of global financial uncertainty.
In Akon’s own words:
“We want to make Akon City a beginning for the future of Africa… a city with the latest technologies, a cryptocurrency, and the embodiment of Africa’s future society.”
If completed, Akon City could become a landmark achievement — blending visionary tech with cultural pride, and offering a bold new chapter in Africa’s development story.
