Dr. Dre, the multibillionaire, hitmaker, rapper, and pioneer of Beats, is bidding adieu to his nearly two-decade-long seaside refuge. The 57-year-old Compton native is openly asking $20 million for the Malibu home that his ex-wife, Nicole Young, once owned.
Since Malibu real estate values have risen in the 22 years since Dre purchased the property, he will still benefit handsomely even if it sells for significantly less than the $4.8 million he paid for it in 2000. One of the many unique aspects of the three-story estate is its placement on a nearly 7,000 square foot block of property on Carbon Beach in Malibu, which has grown to be one of the most expensive areas in the city.
According to the description, this “contemporary beach estate” “exudes total luxury and sophistication.” The opulent house, which was constructed in the early 1990s, has floor to ceiling glass walls that let in plenty of natural light and provide views of the river in every room. Entrance is through a small foyer that leads to the large great room, which is ideal for entertainment.
This room’s sliding glass doors open to a gorgeous stone fireplace and a balcony with views of the ocean. A sophisticated security system, gates, and a courtyard-style entry guard the entire area.
Other open-concept living areas include a recording studio, large gym, executive office, main bedroom with sauna, carpeted fireplace, sitting area, private balcony, primary closet, and five guest bedrooms. With 9,000 square feet, this is one of the biggest homes on Carbon Beach.
Nicole Young lived in Dr. Dre’s Malibu vacation home during their acrimonious divorce. The property is near to Nobu Malibu. Dr. Dre has previously tried to sell the home. The land next to the Pacific Coast Highway was briefly listed for sale ten years ago, with an asking price that ranged from $11 million to $12.5 million.
Dre filed for divorce from Young in December. He allegedly offered her a $100 million lump settlement but kept all of their properties for himself, including the $40 million Malibu mansion, the $40 million Brentwood estate, and the two residences in Calabasas that he bought from Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady. As of right now, Forbes estimates his net worth to be $400 million.
